Psychological Roots
It has been said that most of our physical ailments have psychological roots. Still others, like Dr. Brian Weiss in his book "Many Lives, Many Masters
", have witnessed physical ailments disappear after a patient recalls a past life!
Are all ailments curable by addressing the mind, our beliefs, and our emotions? The jury is still out on that one but what I know for certain is that we can always impact our experience of physical pains and the state of our health by training our minds and releasing stress.
Visualization
Personally, whenever I am feeling enough stress to bring on a cold sore, I use my mind and visualization to wash away the virus from the area of my lip where I feel tingling. By doing this, I consistently prevent cold sores from appearing.
Inevitability
Certainly, there are significantly more serious illnesses that take more than visualization to heal. It is also true that at times, a serious illness may be part of our path, part of the experiences we need in order to grow. Caroline Myss talks about these circumstances in her book "Anatomy of the Spirit : The Seven Stages of Power and Healing
".
It may also be the case that death is upon us and no amount of wishing will change it's arrival. In any one of the above mentioned scenarios, our efforts to stop what is happening may have no impact at all.
The Power to Heal
Still, there are thousands of situations that fall outside of the realm of the inevitable and well within our power to change.
The Mind and Emotions
One of the most important areas to focus on while creating greater health is the mind and our emotions. Truly, there is no system more focused on gaining control of the mind and our emotions than Buddhism. To learn more about Buddhism and how it can help to heal our minds and our emotions, I recommend reading "Awakening the Buddha Within : Tibetan Wisdom for the Western World
", by Lama Surya Das.
Practiced awareness of our habitual thoughts and mental-emotional patterns can help us to choose which patterns are helpful and which patterns are detrimental. At this point we are at choice. We can choose to reprogram ourselves to think and respond in ways that help versus hinder us.
Once negative thoughts, feelings, or patterns of thinking and feeling are uncovered, any of the releasing techniques listed on the left can assist us in letting them go and replacing them with something more constructive.
Spiritual Help
In addition to the releasing techniques, you will be astonished at how much assistance you can get from the spirit realm. Energy healing and healings from guides and angels can truly occur. Meeting your healing guides or creating a personal relationship with the Archangel, Raphael, can greatly assist your ability to receive spiritual healings. I highly recommend "Psychic Healing With Spirit Guides and Angels
" by Diane Stein and "Divine Guidance : How to Have a Dialogue with God and Your Guardian Angels
" by Doreen Virtue to begin exploring your personal relationship with beings in the spirit realm.
Energy Medicine
It is extremely beneficial to learn how to manage and maintain your own energy system to maintain your health. Routinely clearing out your chakras and cleansing your aura can go a long way in maintaining a proper level of energy and health. You can also release negative feelings from your chakras and your aura when you learn how to work with your subtle energy system.
Two of the greatest books I have every read on the human subtle energy system are Barbara Brennan's "Hands of Light : A Guide to Healing Through the Human Energy Field
", and Donna Eden's "Energy Medicine
". Both are extremely detailed guides of chakras, the aura, meridians, and healing techniques using all of these aspects of the human subtle energy system.
